Journey To The Center Of The Mind

My song of the day. I heart it. It's also featured in an episode of Six Feet Under. I heart that show.

Forks and Knives (La Fete)

Beirut is on repeat in the car. Whimsical driving music. Must get more songs.

Today Is The Day

That Mrs. Babe celebrates another year of wisdom and fun!

from Jenny Babe's fbook. Photog: Seb?
If you are feeling blue and/or are having a real sh*t day, this is the person to call. She is the most encouraging, supportive, loving, caring, and down-to-earth woman. She doesn't take crap from anyone and is not afraid to put herself out there. She is cool as a cucumber and fearless. Tough as nails with a shining platinum heart bedazzled with garnet gemstones. Stunning face, hot physique, and glowing soul. She's the owner of a smile that'll brighten your day in a second.

To Jenny Babe on your birthday, I treasure you and am inspired by you. I am elated to call you one of my BFFs and honoured that you are one of me bridesmaids.

Birthday Weekend Ketchup

Get it? Ketchup!? Catch up.....anyways here's the tale of last weekend. I showed you the hat the Q gave me and that was just the beginning to a wonderful weekend with some pretty great peeps.

Friday: actual birthday. Party at home with family and Bridgetown friends. Best. Party. Ever. It was designed to my exact specifications with a little extra in surprises.

I woke up on birthday morning to see the kitchen decked to the nines in Batman (that was the theme, and yes I realized this birthday party will look like something for a 10 year old boy, but it was awesome).

This was the greatest homemade card ever, dwellers of the house had
signed it and then later at the party, so did everyone else. Thank you!

How sweet is that!? There's some good folk in this here house. In our family, the birthday boy or girl gets to choose what they want for dinner and so on and so on. I requested dill pickle soup and then changed my mind to grilled cheese sandwiches and pickles (the surprise here was bacon!). The other surprise was homemade cheesecake that Seestor made! It was so good that Bridgetown boys were talking about it the next day! Good show Seestor!

Saturday: WEM shopping with Bridgetown boys and billiard double birthday bonanza.

Bridgetown boys and I went to WEM sans Q (he had to work. Insert sad face.) but had a good time nonetheless. K-Big got himself a fancy watch and a near heart attack too. K-Big doesn't shop much, he's a saver, ppffft. C-Man cashed in on some sweet deals for classy and hipster clothes and outerwear. I found a beautiful Bettie Page dress and pretty earrings. We gave our wallets a bit of a break and headed over to the amusement park, Galaxyland. Space Shot and Mindbender were awesome! It's been a long time since I've been on rides and after a run on the Mindbender I was reminded why: motion sickness! I didn't feel all that bad until we went on the carousel. With the 3 year old children. And I was the one who was sick.

Billiard double birthday bonanza! Mrs. Babe and I had a double birthday party. She's a pool shark and I am not. She won nearly every game she played and I did not. We exchanged gifts and squeezed the life out of each other as usual (we're big huggers). Hahaha we'll get to Mrs. Babe later. All of our friends came to have some fun, whether they stayed for an hour or all night, it was great. I failed to get some photos but rest assured Mr. Babe presented us with a delightful cake made entirely of cupcakes! It read "Happy Birthday K & J!"

What a great weekend. Thank you to everyone who planned and put the birthday parties together, thank you to everyone who came out on Friday and on Saturday, thank you to the Bridgetown boys for driving up to chill and celebrate, and thank you for the gifts, they're wonderful! I love you all!

Yesterday morn, the sun and sky was amazing.

Best Birthday Gift Ever

That I can recall from recent years. Q decided to give me part of my birthday gift today due to extreme cold. An early gift and a useful and totally rad gift. Best gift ever.

It's thick and really furry and a nice shade of macintosh red. I heart it!

Thanks Q!

A Request Delivered!

For my gorgeous friend Erinn at Fancy Napkin, the recipe for the coconut cheesecake I made for Seestor on her birthday.

Coconut Cheesecake

1-1/4 c.                         oreo cookie crumbs
1 c.                               shredded coconut
1/4 c.                            butter, melted
3 pkg. (250 g each)         philadelphia brick cream cheese, softened
3/4 c.                            sugar
1 tsp.                            vanilla
1 tsp.                            coconut extract
3                                  eggs

- heat oven to 350F
- mix crumbs, coconut, and butter; press onto bottom of 9-inch springform pan. *I don't have one, so I used a 9-inch cake pan and lined it with parchment paper.
- beat cream cheese, sugar, vanilla, and coconut extract with mixer until well blended.
- add eggs, one at a time, mixing on low speed after each just until blended.
- pour over crust.
- bake for 40 - 50 minutes or until centre is almost set.
- run knife around rim of pan to loosen cake; cool before removing rim and refrigerate for four hours.

Enjoy!

Lovely

This new dress makes me feel absolutely lovely. Stylish and pretty. Thank you rw&co.! Paired with some pearls and my blue suede heels (yes, I have blue suede shoes, jealous?), I feel good thru and thru. Perfect ensemble for an afternoon tea. Don't let these poor poses fool you.....

Hepburn, but not so classy and lacking in all grace. Lovely all the same.     :)

A Little Errand

Q and I made our way down to Bridgetown on the weekend to run an errand and do a little visiting. The errand was picking up our vacuum (it wouldn't fit in Jeep or the U-Haul truck believe it or not). For those of you who are thinking: "A vacuum? You drove 5 hours for a vacuum?" HEY! It's a Dyson, not only is pricey, it's fantastic! Have you ever used one?! I guarantee you will never use another vacuum again. Try one and you'll understand.

Anyways, we also spent some time with our pals there, food (lots but still not enough cornbread), drinks, and lots of laughs.

C-Man is a parkour pro. As evidenced here. This window is like 15 feet up.

Thanks for a good night guys! And to the Zed family, thank you for a delicious lunch and a lovely afternoon of visits before our journey back home.

Today

Favourite red jacket, Forever21. Balloons & Couch brooch, etsy.

Earrings, elephants, gifted from Mrs. Babe.

Tuxedo top, joe fresh.
Scissors, Forever 21.

My favourite shoes. My brogues from Army & Navy.

I love these pieces and today's combo.

Food, Friends, and Sequins!

Yesterday was a good day. First, lunch with Britt Britt and then later on, drinks and food with Q and Mr. & Mrs. Babe. We began at the notoriously hip, Sugarbowl for some neat drinks. Well I had soda as always but the three of them had some beers that you probably couldn't get from any other bar.

After the funky brewskies, we made our way to The Next Act Pub for more drinks and some munchies. And boy oh boy were those munchies gooooood! I enjoyed a grilled cheese while the others feasted on a pulled pork sandwich, poutine, and nachos. Mmmm mm!

What a yummy day with good people and I did it all surrounded in sparkle.

Boots, Black Friday gift. Jacket, Forever21. Silk scarf, gifted. Leggings, dynamite. Sequin top, joe fresh. Wallet, gifted.

I need to learn to pose better without looking like a total idiot. Oh well, I felt good.

My Journal

.....is a little leather number that is a beautiful shade of green. It was a gift from my uncle and I have the perfect purpose for it. It will now serve as my "pre-blog" journal. I don't always have instant access to a computer so I can blog there until I can share it here with you.

Britt Britt and I went on a lunch date at a restaurant that I've wanted to dine at for a very long time. This restaurant was the Continental Treat on Whyte Avenue. Hahaha it was far more romantic than ever intended but it was a delightful afternoon with some really really good food. I had schnitzel for the first time and it was so tasty! Britt Britt had the Polish cutlets which she said were also very good.

We both indulged in the pickle soup. Holy. Smokers. It was the best soup I've ever had. It was filled with carrots and pickles and chunks of potato. The food wasn't heavy, it was light and hearty and very very filling.

Delicious meal and a warm atmosphere. The decor of the restaurant made me feel like I was in old Europe. Soul-soothing classical music filled our ears while we ate. A very calming place to dine. The bar area was filled to the brim with liquor and the countertop was completely covered with a multitude of wine. All different kinds but the one that caught my eye was "Ghost Pines". Unfortunately we didn't have any wine, but that's one I would try based purely on the label. It's haunting and very pretty.

Above the landscape of vino, hovered constellations of delicate necked glasses. Throughout the restaurant were vintage lampshades hanging from the ceiling; a great accent to the masculine fireplace who's mantle was home to a family of these (except they were draped with white wax from the proud standing taper candles):

I love these!
One day, my kitchen will be littered with them.

A great time catching up with my long time BFF. Thanks for lunch and the sweater and sweets!

What Did You Do For New Year's?

This is what we did:

We kept it low key and stayed home for the festivities. We had a lovely and surprisingly filling dinner: fondue and raclette. After we all stuffed our faces, we each relaxed in our respective areas of the house until it was time for champagne (which I mistakenly froze). Champagne slushy? Yes please! It was so good and super delicious!! Music and snuggles topped off the evening until bedtime. Here's a peek:

Note: Jags is ready for dinner. Silly kitty. He thinks he's people.      :)

I love these little white dishes. The beef just looks so pretty.

Pretty nails, good times, family, and champagne slushies. An excellent night!

So tell me, what did you do for New Year's??

Cheers to you and yours in 2012!

xoxo
