All The Rowboats

I love this woman. She's incredibly talented and I am really looking forward to her new album out on May 29, 2012: What We Saw From The Cheap Seats. And yes, I've pre-ordered it. This song is from that new album. It's wonderful and she looks delicious too. Ladies and Gents, without further ado: Regina Spektor.....

You Won't Regret This

The past few posts have been focused on music. Don't worry, I have had some wonderful and chic outfits, but I haven't been too concerned about photos. Some will come soon, just chill.   :)

This post is about music, again. Are you a rock 'n' roll girl or boy? You like real rock 'n' roll? Not the pansy pop rock that seems to be flooding the radiowaves? If you dig the real deal, this one's for you.

This is a fresh band straight out of Edmonton chock full of talent and passion, hard hits and addicting rhythms. The wait is over! I present to yoooooouuuuu.........Unborn American.

Totally kickin name hey? Check 'em out on ReverbNation and Facebook.

You won't regret it.

Journey To The Center Of The Mind

My song of the day. I heart it. It's also featured in an episode of Six Feet Under. I heart that show.

MORE TEA PARTY!

Alright, show #2: Flames Central, Calgary, Saturday night. I had a beautiful and peaceful drive down.

The little red glow on the left side is the bottom of a rainbow believe it or not.
It was like having two suns.

I had some time to kill before I caught up with Stevie and her man, so I decided to drive up Centre Street. I had never gone up that way before and figured, what the hell. What the hell indeed! I ended up in a beautiful area filled with huge homes that looked like the belonged in a magazine for modern homes and museum architecture. This is an area of wealth, not just material riches but the view that these people have of downtown Calgary is amazing.

Must say that I'm becoming a big fan of Calgary.

I met up with Stevie for the show and after getting turned around 3 times in downtown Calgary (too many one ways, and not in the direction we needed), we finally found a sweet and super cheap parkade with heated underground parking. Walking two and half blocks wasn't nearly as bad knowing we had a warm car waiting for us. Once we found our way out of the parkade and trekked through the cold, we ended up waiting in line to enter the venue for at least 15 - 20 minutes. Doesn't sound like much, but it feels like an eternity when it's nearly -25C outside. Luckily we had real printed tickets and we were bumped to the front of the line and welcomed the heat of the great indoors. My lovely friend Bashmore was not able to attend the show due to her roboknee but did create a link for us to some friends of hers that were at the show. These new friends happened to be the first to enter the venue and were able to grab the best seats in the house and save some for us. Stevie and I made some new friends that night: Cassy and Mike.

Mike (not nearly as far away as he looks here), Cassy, and Stevie.
A BIG HUGE THANK YOU HUG TO CASSY AND MIKE FOR SAVING US SEATS!
I can't thank you enough for that.
This is where we sat:

Best seats in the house for sure (next to practically sitting on the stage like many people in the crowd). In the past, I never had the chance to see the same band (my favourite or not) play two nights in a row. It goes without saying that this was an opportunity that I could not miss. It was a blast and definitely interesting to see the differences between the two performances. Performance of The Tea Party was fantastic both nights, but Calgary seemed to give them more energy. Why? Because the crowd was so full of life and excitement that it fed the stage, naturally the guys get pretty pumped up from that, so it reciprocates. There was no denying that the Calgary fan base kicked the Edmonton fan base in the ass. Which is sad because Edmonton is usually the rowdy one. Either way, I got two shows. Plus! Get this! Bassist/keyboardist Stuart Chatwood and I caught eyes during a few songs. I was singing along (of course) and he shot me a full sweet teeth smile and wave. How cool is that?! VERY! It didn't happen once, but at least four times throughout the show and then a couple more at the end as he left the stage. I'm pretty confident in my knowledge of Tea Party songs that the only time I stopped singing along was to scream at the top of my lungs, matched with an applause for them throughout the night. I'm not just a super fan, I'm a true admirer of their work, their art, and a smile and some waves make all the difference. It made me feel good, great even! I imagine it to be this: A personal and special acknowledgment from him, out of all the fans in the room, he saw that I was right there along with him/them, every note, every measure. Every beat. I will add that feeling to memory box and ride on that wave until the next show (summer 2012!).

Due to such an amazing vantage point, I was able to get some good photos. I regretfully left the camera in the car, but never before have I been so grateful to have an iPhone (Q, thank you for "bullying" me into getting one). A good chunk of the shots turned out blurry due to the guys' constant motion but I don't care, I had a birds eye view and was able to actually WATCH them play, to see the instruments and the grace and focus with which they play them. It was wonderful. Stuart was focused and played with such calm fluidity, he was graceful and a natural. He is one with his bass. I'm sure he could do it in his sleep. Jeff Martin: you can tell that his guitars are an extension of his body. Music runs in his veins. Jeff Burrows: best drummer of all time! Such power and accuracy. And he's f*cking quick too! Watch the video or any live performance footage of "Save Me" and you'll see. Let me know your thoughts after you pick your jaw up off the floor. Anyways, enough babbling, I will now bombard you with photos from Calgary's show.

A cup of tea in between songs.

My favourite moment that I didn't think I captured. Although blurry :(
That's just a tiny taste. Photos are a bit grainy but I think it's pretty friggin' good for an iPhone and some gentle fog machine use. Enjoy?

I surely did!

WE surely did.

PS: A big shout out and super thanks to the lovely Bashmore for letting me use her comfy couch as my bed. I'm delighted that you remember my pillow preference and made the couch-bed to my specifications. And thanks for the brunch and shopping date. We met a Pharaoh! That guy is slick. Anubis, you are mine. Thanks m'dear!

THE TEA PARTY!

Oh my goodness, I have been busting at the seams to share this with you all. This past weekend I attended a couple of concerts. The first one was on Friday night at the Edmonton Event Centre: The Tea Party! They're baaaaaack!!!!! Holy sh*t I am so excited about this! I waited 6 years thinking that they would never join forces again, but my #1 favourite band is back together and better than ever. I was a mess of emotions (sounds a little odd for a rock concert but with music filled with such power, emotions are all over the place). They played many many favourites and some songs that I had never heard them play live before. Not only did they play my faves so loud that my organs shook, they also played Zeppelin's "Kashmir" inserted into "Save Me". HOLY SH*T. AMAZING SHOW. I only snapped a handful of photos from the show because I choose to drink it all in and enjoy (plus I knew I would get more shots at the next show). Here's what we got (aside from my totally awesome shirt, seen here at the bottom):

Moi et Jenny Babe.

Mr. Babe & my babe, Q.

Q, Kristy, and Dennis.
So many good friends to share the show with!

Now I know that these photos of the stage and the guys aren't the greatest but it's just a frame of reference for you to see how "close" we were.

After the show, I was all a-flitter. Super happy and ready to get movin' to Calgary for the show at Flames Central the next night. The high of the show was heightened with the beauty we stumbled into on the way back to the car. West Edmonton Mall is decorated with some of the most beautiful Christmas trees and lights and all things shiny and pretty:

I heart these big flowers that hang over one of the newly renovated seating areas.
A total fairytale feeling in this spot. I love WEM late at night when there's no one around.

Stay tuned, Calgary show is coming up!

Australia?

Yes please! That seems to be where all the action is. My musical hero was recently one of the many performers in the Whole Lotta Love Led Zeppelin Celebration. How I wish I was there myself, but alas, I must live vicariously through those that were lucky enough to attend. I must send out a huge thank you to those that were there and managed to video a good portion of the show. The one that I can't take my ears away from is "Since I've Been Loving You". Holy phuck. Spectacular! Watching Sir Martin work his magic is always a treat. I love it when I come across an artist that I haven't heard before, it's invigorating! The one I am referring to is the lovely woman on vocals in that particular performance. Her name is Zkye (pronounced Sky). She has a voice that makes my soul speechless. Very bluesy and very strong. New fan here for Zkye! Alright, enough of this chatter, please watch and I don't blame you if you fall madly in love with this! Catch your breath now.....

There's This Band.....

.....that I love. This band split over 5 years ago. This band is The Tea Party. Now the guys each do their own thing. So now there's this new band, that rocked my socks on Friday. This band is 777. Phenomenal show! It was a smaller venue, so the concert was very intimate. It felt so good to hear some of my favorites performed live as well as some new favorites off of the brand new album, 'The Ground Cries Out' (I recommend you pick up a copy for yourself, it'll change your life I swear. Aaaaand don't miss the site). Not only was I riding the wave from the show, I got to meet Jeff (for the second time!) and his new partners in crime. I couldn't have been happier, I felt rejuvenated by the show: the music, the energy, the few moments I had in person with them, being able to share the night with my love, and how the whole combination made me feel. Here's some photos that I was able to snap during the performance. Forgive me for the fuzzy photos but I think they're pretty bangin'. Enjoy!

Crepuscular With Drug Infused Sugarplums

My friends! 'Tis the season of boxes, bobbles, and bright sparkly things. Are you as excited as I am?! I should hope so. I seem to find myself lost between the me of present day and the me of days past. This year I am more proud of my Christmas tree than I have ever been: all my ornaments coordinate and I made my own tree topper because I had "lost" my star. Lo and behold, I find the damn thing once I have my elaborately constructed owl topper complete and perched upon his new throne. It was a good thing. The star wouldn't fit the eclectic theme anyways. The owl by the by has been named Crepuscular. The me of days past: instead of unplugging the tree lights and going to bed, I turn off all the other lights in the apartment and sleep on the love seat couch. I must sleep in the fetal position in order to fit comfortably. I choose to sleep there because I like the gentle light that haunts that corner of the room. It's a comfort. Safe for a sweet slumber. Try it, I guarantee you'll love it, at least once.....unless you have an addictive personality which is also wonderfully acceptable. For the first time in my gift wrapping career, when I folded the seam over the side to tape it secure, the pattern of the paper lined up perfectly! How amazing is that?! I couldn't believe it, even though it was just on one side, it's definitely worth mentioning. I took a photo to immortalize the moment. Geek. I never use gift bags, it's such a cop out. There's no creativity in it. Boxes, that's the way to go. Just imagine the possibilities you have with all the different types of ribbon, bows, bells, and glitter! How glorious and exciting! The twinkle in my eye explodes with immense glee. Gushing, just gushing at the thought of how delicious this season is. No matter that it's -30C (or colder) outside, December is the place to be. And it must have snow or it just isn't the same. Wild rabbits. I saw one this evening and he was perfectly white. No gray or brown tipped ears. He was pure and undeniably attractive. I wanted to take him home. Instead of whisking him away to a place of warmth, I stood there and thought for a short while about his life as he cautiously bounced away. Where does he live? Is he concerned about the ice? (I have never seen a rabbit slip on ice. Have you?) Is he cold? <--- I got a wee bit sad when this thought crossed my mind because the worse case scenario popped in my head: nowhere to sleep and freezing. What does he eat now and where does he get it? Has he befriended some lonely homeless man who feeds him fresh lettuce which he purchased with his panhandling earnings? They are family. I smile with the complimentary warm fuzzies and go inside happy with the thought of the small family that exists close by. I love that song. Do you? You should. Jefferson Airplane - "White Rabbit". Ideal for any season, any day, any time. Grace Slick. Absolutely the greatest name ever. Maybe I'll get my name legally changed. Good idea you think? Hmm.....moving onwards and upwards..... My family. A combination of outspoken weirdos with very strong personalities. The holidays are always interesting of course. This year, we have a big twist: family holiday vacation to Hawaii. Dad and I had the same concern: is there enough liquor on that island for all of us? Will we make it through? Eventually we lowered our blood pressures in a timely and safe manner when we were sure that there would be a plethora of alcohol. Disclaimer: we are not alcoholics, it just makes everything more fun and slightly more bearable sometimes, when we need a situation to be bearable. You know what I mean. You probably have the same family. And I'm sure you would have the same concern we did. I desperately need to clean this horrid living area that is my apartment. I must do it before I leave for the Pacific. My one and only is caring for Floyd and they don't need to deal with the mess. I'm a slob. Amongst all the gift shopping for others, I've managed (yet again) to buy more stuff for me. Damn it. I mean that sarcastically and truthfully. I don't need that stuff, but I wanted it and am pleased to have it. I woke up yesterday to the mail being hurdled through the mail slot of the apartment door. To my surprise and sheer joy, the ring I had ordered finally arrived. A beautiful modern ring with an antique charm. Perfection. I bought a small handful of new make up. As usual, I don't need it because I have an enormous amount of make up for someone who doesn't wear a lot of it. I figured, why not? I have a mildly glamorous company/supplier Christmas party on Saturday and I can't wait. Musn't forget to charge the camera battery, that will be a serious accessory for the evening. Many friends and colleagues will be there, cheer, laughter, and spirits will be had and hilarious photos shall ensue. Once again, Floyd is sitting on my lap. It's cute and sweet and he keeps me warm. Better than him laying the keyboard and giving you unintelligible gibberish. Watching "Robin Williams: Weapons of Self Destruction" quite funny, a few old jokes here and there, but funny nonetheless. I still have to see "Gentlemen Broncos", nothing but pure quirkiness there. "Oh my holy crap. Surveillance does. I hate those." I think I'll watch "Fear and Loathing..." instead, I need a fill of White Rabbit and shenanigans infused with drugs. Sounds fun and all in a fire apple red convertible in bat country. Joyous. Well I must depart. Off to sleep like a fetus in the glow of Crepuscular's throne and have visions of sugarplums dance in my twisted mind. Try it, satisfaction guaranteed. Breathe.
